The Spalding County Public Works Department is responsible for maintenance of the roadways and right-of-ways for the County. The Road Department is primarily responsible for:

In addition, the Spalding County Public Works Department is responsible for the operations of the collection centers. The collection centers are open four days a week from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Centers are closed on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There are five Collection Centers in Spalding County:

The Collection Centers were created through a SPLOST project, voted on by Spalding County Citizens.  The purpose of the Collection Centers, as presented to the voters at the time of the SPLOST, was to handle household garbage only.  Over the years, additional services have been added to accommodate other items being accepted at the Collection Centers.  These services are now being abused and represent a significant expense to the Spalding County Taxpayers. 

The Spalding County Board of Commissioners voted to implement changes which will return the Collection Centers to the use for which they were originally designed and that were approved by the citizens of Spalding County.

Effective May 4, 2020:

• Bulky items will no longer be accepted at the Spalding County Collection Centers.
  • Bulky Items include, but are not limited to
    • Large Items that are not Construction Material
    • Sofas
    • Mattresses
    • Large Toys
    • Non-Metal Furniture

Where can I take my bulky items?

• City of Griffin Transfer Station located on Industrial Drive.

• Pine Ridge Landfill located on Bailey Jester Road.

• Lamar County Landfill located on Roger Brown Drive in Barnesville.

• Construction and demolition debris can be disposed of at the City of Griffin C&D Shoal Creek Landfill located on Shoal Creek Road.
